If you happen to be in Amsterdam in the next few days we recommend going to Sail. This is the largest nautical event in the world with more than 600 participating ships and about 150 tall ships from all over the world. We went to the opening ‘sail-in parade’ yesterday and it was pretty spectacular. A fleet of 25 ships sailed from the coastal city of IJmuiden to Amsterdam. During the voyage they were accompanied by hundreds of smaller boats which made it look more like an ant swarm than a parade at times. Anyway, to get a better impression of the parade you can go here.
For the next few days there’s extensive programming and most of the participating ships are docked and can be visited. Sail Amsterdam is on and around the IJ River until the 23rd of August. Look here for more information and programming.
